Although akoya pearls are known to be classically white with a hint of rose, this is a look that is in influenced post-harvest. In order to achieve this desired color, they are put through a process known as pinking. This is a universal process that nearly every akoya pearl has gone through.

The pearls have each been hand-selected from freshly harvested pearls for their naturally white body colors and intense natural luster, with just a hint of rose. For decades we have been working with the same family-run farms in Japan. These families understand our rigorous standards and select these special pearls specifically for us. They ensure the pearls are only the top range of the hanadama category.

Once the hanadama pearls are selected, they are imported and graded by our Chief Creative Officer, Hisano. She examines every strand and every pearl to ensure the quality is always the same, rejecting any pearls that do not fall within the highest hanadama range.
